Website Improvement Ideas – RISEUP

Header/Navigation Bar

Simplify the menu: It looks over crowded in the top, creating drop-down menus.

Membership menu can turn into a call to action button, where we can put “Join” or “Sign Up”.

If your goal is for people to contact you over the membership then we can create a button that says “contact us” instead. We can put all projects in the project nav and create drop-down menus for each project you did. If you want to advertise a specific project like the History with Grit Project, we can showcase it in the homepage. FAQs can be a submenu for the about nav, even contact us if you want it even more simplify.

Remove unnecessary icons: These icons aren’t clickable or have any use in the website. Do you plan on making a website where members can log in? Is there products to sell in the future?

Logo: The nav bar is a red-ish brown color, the logo itself has a white background, ideally a transparent background looks cleaner on the navbar. Or we can change the nav bar background to white.

Below is a mock-up image of the a simplify navigation bar menu. (Typography can be change later on, we can more creative with the design later on.) Overall, I just wanted to show the simplify menu and how the logo looks more in place.

Headings/Body

Images: Through out the website, I notice there isn’t a lot of images. We should collect more images for the site especially high-quality original images. Website should look unique, repeated free stock images makes the website look  inauthentic, misleading and no brand differentiation.

The image doesn’t seem to match the purpose of the organization. One of the first things the user will see is the images, having a unique image that represents the organization would be nice. Overall design looks too “boxy”. Creating contrast like adding buttons that are rounded to the site.

The hand logo is a nice touch to the site.

Articles: Should have different images representing what the article is going to be about.

The actual articles itself need more formatting instead of a giant block of text. Adding images, hyperlinks, videos, any sources you got from finding the information should be display.

Example: the article THEGRE is all text across the page, making it look cramp and hard to read for users. There’s only a feature image but nothing else related to the text.

Below are images of how I redesign the Text Layout of the article. I created more structure for the text. I just used images from google in this example just to show how visually better it can be for the users. Adding Bold, Italics, Hyperlinks to text keeps the users attention to the screen. We can add more color and design to bring it more to life or keep it simple. But this example is just to show what can you do with the articles with having format.

Footer

Organization: Confused about the email submission box. What is the propose? Can users subscribe to newsletters with that function? If its unnecessary than we can remove it, and reorganize the footer to be more centered.

Consistency

The website should have a consistent design with the color scheme, typography and layout. For example, when scrolling through the website I found these buttons out of place, because no where else has that shade of cyan on the websites.

Example of color scheme which I just sampled from the homepage website using Adobe Color:

Through the website it should have follow the color scheme you desire, so buttons or any color design won’t look out of place.
